How Sauna, Cold Immersion and Recovery Can Help You Create a Better Life

BY KRISTINA KARLSSON
Why Recovery Is No Longer a Luxury
Recently, I discovered something that has completely transformed my energy, focus and mindset.
And honestly, I cannot stop talking about it. It's the topic of this recent podcast...
If you follow me online, you may already know I have become slightly obsessed with sauna and cold immersion.
What surprised me most is not just how good I feel physically, but how much clearer, calmer and more creative I feel mentally.
Every time I walk out of a sauna and ice bath session, I feel energised, inspired and focused. It feels like my mind has been reset.
That is why I was so excited to sit down with Anthony, James and Simon, the founders of XTRA Club.
Their mission is simple but powerful: make recovery and wellness accessible to everyone.
And after spending time in their beautiful spaces, I truly believe they are changing how Australians think about wellbeing.
The Science Behind Sauna and Cold Immersion
One of the things I loved most about this conversation was hearing the incredible science behind sauna and contrast therapy.
According to studies discussed in the episode, regular sauna use has been linked to a significant reduction in all-cause mortality, including lower risks of heart disease and chronic illness.
That is remarkable.
We spend so much time searching for quick fixes, yet something as simple as consistent sauna use can have such profound long-term benefits.
Sauna supports:
- Improved cardiovascular health
- Better circulation
- Reduced stress
- Mental clarity
- Recovery and relaxation
- Skin health
Cold immersion also offers powerful benefits.
It can help reduce inflammation, improve circulation and support mental resilience.
And while stepping into cold water might feel intimidating at first, the reward afterwards is incredible.
The dopamine release alone is enough to completely shift your mood and energy.
Why Stillness Matters More Than Ever
One of my favourite parts of the conversation was when the founders talked about “sauna thoughts.”
They shared how some of their best ideas come while sitting quietly in the sauna without screens, distractions or noise.
I could not agree more.
I never get my best ideas while scrolling social media or staring at a computer.
My best ideas come when I create space.
Walking in nature.
Journaling.
Meditating.
Sitting quietly in a sauna.
In today’s constantly connected world, creating moments of stillness is no longer optional. It is essential.
The Entrepreneurial Story Behind XTRA Club
I also loved hearing the entrepreneurial journey behind XTRA Club.
Anthony shared how the idea was born after struggling to find an affordable sauna membership he could use consistently.
That frustration sparked a business idea.
I always say that some of the best businesses are created by solving your own problems.
What impressed me most was their willingness to start before having everything figured out.
As many of you know, I deeply believe in the quote:
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
So many people delay their dreams waiting for the perfect moment.
But clarity often comes through action.
That is exactly what these founders did.
Five Key Lessons From This Episode
1. Recovery Is a Productivity Tool
Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is essential for creativity, energy and long-term success.
2. Consistency Beats Intensity
Small daily habits create lasting transformation.
3. Your Best Ideas Need Space
Creating moments without screens and distractions allows clarity to emerge.
4. Start Before You Feel Ready
You learn by doing.
5. Wellness Should Be Accessible
Health and recovery should not feel exclusive or unattainable.
My Personal Experience
Personally, sauna and cold immersion have become part of my own wellness routine.
And what surprised me most is how quickly I noticed the mental benefits.
I leave every session calmer, happier and more focused.
Sometimes we think improving our lives requires massive change.
But often it starts with creating small rituals that support our energy and mindset.
Final Thoughts
This episode reminded me that creating a dream life is not just about achievement.
It is also about creating rituals and routines that support your wellbeing, your clarity and your happiness.
