The One Habit That Will Change Everything

by Kristina Karlsson

Every January, I see the same thing happen. We feel motivated. Hopeful. Ready for change. And so we create long lists of habits we think will finally fix everything.

Exercise every day. Eat perfectly. Wake up earlier. Meditate. Journal. Read more. Drink more water.

I've done this myself many times.

And while none of these habits are bad, the problem is this. When habits are not connected to something meaningful, they rarely last.

What I have learnt over the years is that you don't need more habits.

You need the right one.

Why Most Habits Do Not Stick

Habits that last are not trendy. They are personal.

So often, we try to copy someone else’s routine without stopping to ask whether it actually suits our life. Their morning ritual. Their evening routine. Their productivity system.

But your dream life is unique. Your habits should be too.

Instead of asking, what habits should I be doing, I believe the better question is, what kind of life do I want to be living.

Not in a big, overwhelming way. But in the day to day.

Do you want to feel calmer. More confident. More present. More energised. More connected to yourself.

Your habits should support that feeling first.

Start With Your Dream Life

One of the biggest shifts for me came when I stopped choosing habits based on what I thought I should do, and started choosing habits based on how I wanted to feel.

If you want more clarity, a simple daily reflection habit might support that.

If you want to feel calmer, a gentle morning ritual could change everything.

If you want to feel more confident, a habit of keeping small promises to yourself can quietly build self trust over time.

When habits are aligned with your dream life, they stop feeling heavy. They start feeling supportive.

The Small Habits That Changed My Life

Some of the most powerful habits in my life are incredibly simple.

One of the most important habits I have ever built is writing my dreams down daily.

It started many years ago at three o’clock in the morning when I felt lost and unsure of my future. Putting pen to paper gave me clarity and direction when I needed it most.

This year, I'm writing my top ten dreams every single day.

Not because I expect them all to happen in one year, but because writing them down keeps them present in my subconscious. It helps me notice opportunities and make decisions that align with what truly matters.

Another habit that has made a huge difference for me is my morning ritual.

No matter how the day unfolds, if I start my day in a way I love, I know I have given myself a strong foundation.

Reflection is another habit I come back to again and again. Especially in the evening. Writing down my wins, what I am grateful for, and what I want to focus on tomorrow has helped me slow down and notice progress instead of rushing past it. I do that in my Daily Wins Journal.

None of these habits are big. But they have shaped my life in a big way.

Why Starting Small Is So Powerful

Big habits often fail because they require a big version of you right now.

Small habits succeed because they allow you to become that person over time.

A habit that takes two minutes. Five minutes. One page. One simple question. These are the habits that stick.

Every time you show up, even in a small way, you build self trust. You start to believe, I do what I say I will do. And that belief changes everything.

How To Choose Your One Habit

If you are not sure where to start, here is a simple way to choose your one habit.

First, ask yourself, what do I want more of in my life this year.

Second, ask, what is one daily habit that could support that.

And finally, ask, what feels doable even on a busy or hard day.

That is it. No pressure. No perfection. Just one meaningful habit.

You Do Not Have To Do This Alone

If you have tried building habits before and struggled, please know this. There is nothing wrong with you.

Most of us do not fail because we lack motivation. We struggle because we lack support, structure and encouragement. Changing habits is hard.

Inside the Dream Life Coaching Program, this is exactly what we focus on. Choosing habits that align with your dream life and supporting you week by week as you build them.

In February, we focus on habits. In March, we focus on morning rituals. And throughout the year, we focus on other transformational topics and support you as you create a life you love.

Your dream life is not created all at once. It is created quietly. Daily.

One meaningful habit at a time.
