Want to Live Your Dream Life? It Will Cost You Your Old Life 💛

by Kristina Karlsson

Hello there!

If you’ve ever felt that quiet inner pull - that whisper telling you there’s more to life than the one you’re living now - this post is for you.

Because the truth is, if you want to live your dream life, it will cost you your old one.

I've been there - and I know this to be true.

That might sound a little dramatic, but it’s actually not about losing anything. It’s about becoming the version of you who can create what you truly desire.

In this recent episode of Your Dream Life Podcast, I shared what I’ve learned about the beautiful process of letting go, rewiring your mindset, and courageously creating a life you love - by design, not by default.

Let’s explore how to start that journey today.

The Reality of Change

Every dream - whether it’s starting your own business, finding peace, travelling more, or simply feeling joyful each morning - requires a new version of you to bring it to life.

That means releasing old habits, thought patterns, and stories that once kept you safe but now keep you small.

To live differently, you must think differently.

To grow, you must let go.

It’s both the hardest and the most liberating truth, I know.

When I look back at the moments of biggest change in my own life - moving from Sweden to Australia, starting kikki.K, becoming a Mum, launching Dream Life - every new chapter required me to shed an old one.

And each time, it was worth it.

Why Your Old Life Can’t Take You Where You Want to Go

Imagine you’re climbing a mountain with a heavy backpack filled with everything that’s kept you comfortable until now - people-pleasing, self-doubt, fear of failure, the need to have everything figured out before you begin.

It feels safe to hold on to those things, but the higher you climb, the heavier that backpack becomes.

If you don’t let go, you stay stuck halfway - somewhere between where you are and where you want to be.

So here’s the truth:

"You can’t create a new chapter if you’re still rereading the old one."

Letting go isn’t easy, but it’s the only way to make space for the new.

Three Mindset Shifts That Will Change Everything

The transformation starts in your mind.

If you want to live differently in 2026, you must start thinking differently now.

Here are three powerful shifts that will help you begin:

1️ From “Someday” to “Starting Today”

So many of us say, “One day, when the timing is right…” - but that day never comes on its own.

The timing becomes right when you decide it’s right.

Ask yourself:

“What’s one small action I can take today that future-me will thank me for?”

It might be journaling your dreams, saying no to something that drains your energy, signing up for a workshop, or finally booking that trip.

Dreams don’t arrive fully formed - they grow from small, consistent steps.

Progress, not perfection, brings them to life.

2️ From Fear to Curiosity

Every time fear whispers “what if I fail?”, replace it with “what could I learn?”

Curiosity opens the door to growth and momentum.

It transforms fear into possibility - and possibility is where your dream life begins.

3️ From Comfort to Courage

Comfort feels safe, but it rarely brings joy. Courage, on the other hand, stretches you just enough to grow.

Ask yourself:

“Where am I playing small just to stay comfortable?”

Start by making one brave choice every day - a small step that nudges you toward the life you imagine.

Over time, courage becomes your new comfort zone.

How to Start Taking Action Now

As we near the end of the year, it’s easy to think, “I’ll start fresh in January.”

But if you want a different 2026, you need to start building it now - in November.

Here are a few simple ways to begin:

Reflect on 2025

Take out your journal and write down:

  • What have I loved about this year?
  • What have I outgrown?
  • What am I ready to leave behind?

Writing - not just thinking - helps your brain form new pathways.

This reflection makes it easier to create meaningful change.

Write a Letter to Your Future Self

Imagine it’s December 2026. You’ve just lived your dream year.

Describe how you feel, what you’ve achieved, and who you’ve become.

This practice helps your subconscious mind start believing it’s possible - and when your mind believes, your actions follow.

Shift Just One Habit

Small, consistent changes create massive results over time.

Maybe it’s waking up earlier, moving your body daily, reducing screen time, or committing to journaling.

Pick one habit and stick with it through the rest of this year. It will become the foundation of your 2026 self.

Letting Go Is the Gateway to Freedom

Letting go of your old life is a beautiful act of faith.

It means releasing the version of you that needed certainty, approval, or control - and trusting the version that’s brave enough to grow.

It’s not about abandoning who you are. It’s about honouring who you’re becoming.

So when change feels uncomfortable, remember:

“This is the cost of growth - and it’s worth it.”

Because what’s waiting on the other side is freedom, clarity, and joy.

Five Key Insights from This Episode

  1. Your dream life will require a new version of you. Growth means outgrowing what once felt safe.
  2. You can’t take your old habits into your new life. Release what’s no longer aligned.
  3. Mindset is everything. Start thinking like the person you want to become.
  4. Small daily actions compound into extraordinary results. Progress over perfection.
  5. Discomfort is the doorway to freedom. Every time you stretch yourself, you expand your possibilities.

A Closing Thought

You don’t have to transform everything overnight. You just have to start - right where you are, with what you have.

Because the moment you begin, life begins to meet you halfway.

So today, ask yourself:

“What part of my old life am I ready to release?”

“And what’s one small step I can take toward my dream life today?”

Your answers to those two questions can change everything.

Here’s to letting go with grace, stepping forward with courage, and creating a life you truly love.

Dream big 💛
