Why You’ve Been Given Your Gifts for a Reason – And Why It’s Time to Share Them

by Kristina Karlsson
Have you ever had that little voice inside whisper, “Who am I to do this?”
Or maybe you’ve felt a deep knowing that you’re here for more—but you’re not quite sure what to do with that feeling?
If so, this blog post is for you.
I recently shared a podcast episode straight from my heart, because this message is one I believe in with every part of me:
You’ve been given your gifts for a reason.
And if you’re wondering whether your gifts matter—whether you’re ready, or good enough, or too imperfect—I want to lovingly remind you: yes, yes, and yes.
Let me explain why.
Your Gifts Are Not an Accident
You are one of one. There’s no one else in the world with your exact mix of life experiences, ideas, quirks, passions, and perspective. That alone makes you incredibly valuable.
I truly believe that the talents, interests, challenges, and even heartaches you’ve experienced weren’t given to you randomly. They are part of your story for a reason—and that reason is not to keep them hidden.
One of my favourite quotes by Elizabeth Gilbert puts it beautifully:
“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.”
So, what are your strange jewels?
What lights you up?
What comes naturally to you?
What do people often ask you for help with?
These are clues. And when you start tuning into them, something magical happens.
Why the World Needs Your Light
We’re living in a world that is craving realness. Authenticity. Connection. Meaning.
Whether your gift is creativity, compassion, storytelling, problem-solving, or simply your ability to hold space for others—there’s someone out there who needs what only you can give.
Your art might brighten someone’s day.
Your story could help someone feel less alone.
Your advice might change someone’s direction.
Your way of being could spark something profound in someone else.
The truth is, the ripple effect of sharing your gifts can be so much greater than you imagine.
Three Ways to Start Sharing Your Gifts (Even if You Feel Scared)
I know that sharing your light can feel overwhelming, especially when self-doubt and fear creep in. I’ve been there too.
But here’s the good news: you don’t have to leap onto a big stage tomorrow. In fact, starting small is often the most powerful way to begin.
Here are three gentle ways to start:
1. Start Small
Don’t wait for the perfect moment or the big audience. Just start with one person.
Share your photography online. Offer to mentor a friend. Cook a beautiful meal for someone who needs it. The ripple begins with one.
2. Use Your Voice
You don’t have to be loud. You just need to be willing.
Speak up—whether it’s in a post, a podcast, or a coffee shop conversation. Even a simple “this is something I care about” can start something beautiful.
3. Let Go of Perfection
This one is big. Your gifts don’t have to be polished or perfect to matter.
In fact, your imperfections are often what make your light the most powerful. It’s not about being flawless. It’s about being real.
What If You’re Still Not Sure What Your Gifts Are?
You’re not alone. Sometimes we’re so close to our own gifts that we don’t even recognise them.
Try this:
-
Think about what makes you lose track of time.
-
Notice what energises you.
-
Reflect on what people naturally turn to you for.
Still stuck? Ask a few trusted people in your life:
“What do you think I’m really good at?”
You might be surprised by what they say.
Sharing Your Gifts Might Lead You to Your Purpose
One thing I’ve seen over and over again—especially in the Dream Life community—is that when people begin to share their light, it often leads them to their purpose.
When you align your gifts with your values, your passions, and your dreams, you begin to live a life that feels incredibly meaningful.
That’s not to say it’s always easy or perfect. But it becomes fulfilling. And full of growth. And honestly, a lot more joyful.

Right now.
Start small. Start scared. Start messy.
Just… start.
Because the world needs what only you can give.
