I want to ask you a question. And I want you to answer it honestly. Not the version of the answer you would give a friend at dinner. The real answer.
Here it is.
If nothing changed in your approach for the rest of 2026, your habits, your priorities, the way you spend your weeks, would you be proud of how the year ends?

Hi, I’m Kristina Karlsson. Welcome back to the Dream Life Podcast.
If you’re new here, this is the place where we have honest conversations about how to live a life you love instead of one that just happens to you.
Today’s episode is one I’ve been waiting to record because we are halfway through the year. And by mid-May, most ambitious women already know, somewhere deep down, that they have drifted from the year they imagined back in January.
They just do not know why. Or what to do about it.
So today, we are going to talk about that honestly. And by the end of this episode, I want you to have a really clear sense of where you actually are and what one small thing you could do to change the trajectory of the next six months.
I want to describe a feeling and see if any of it sounds familiar.
You set real intentions in January. Maybe you wrote them down. Maybe you shared them with someone you trust. They were meaningful. They mattered. You felt genuinely excited.
And then the year happened. Not dramatically. Just normally.
Work became busy. Family responsibilities came up. The days started to blur together. And the intentions you wrote down quietly slipped to the back of the drawer.
Now it’s May, and there is this quiet anxiety that visits you, usually sometime in the middle of the week, where you suddenly think, another year is going by.
If that sounds familiar, I want to say two things.
The first is this is not failure. This is not a character flaw. This is not because you are not trying hard enough.
The vast majority of capable, ambitious, intelligent women I know feel exactly this way at this point in the year.
You are not alone, and you are not the problem.
The second thing is that what you are experiencing has a name. It is called drift.
And drift is reversible. Faster than you think. But only if you stop and look at it honestly.
Here is the trap most of us fall into when we feel off track.
We try harder.
We download another productivity app. We bookmark another article about resetting our year. We add more to the to-do list.
And it does not work.
Because trying harder is not the answer.
The answer is to stop. To look honestly at what is actually going on before trying to fix it.
Here is something I have learned after twenty-five years of working with women on this.
When women feel off track, they almost always misdiagnose the problem.
They tell themselves they have a discipline problem. A willpower problem. A confidence problem. That they need to become more organised, wake up earlier, or stop procrastinating.
But most of the time, none of that is true.
What is actually happening usually comes down to one of two things.
Sometimes, you genuinely have lost direction. The goals or intentions you set in January no longer fit the life you are living now. Things have changed. What mattered then no longer feels aligned. In that case, the answer is clarity. You simply need to pause and ask yourself better questions.
But more often, the issue is not direction at all.
It is capacity.
You have not lost what you want. You have lost the mental space to act on it.
Your mind is full. You are carrying too much. You are saying yes to too many things and too many people, and there is no energy left for the things that matter most to you.
So when you sit down to work on your dreams, there is no fuel left in the tank.
And then you tell yourself you are lazy or undisciplined when actually, you are exhausted.
This is the most important thing I will say in today’s episode.
You are not behind because you are not trying.
You are behind because you are carrying too much.
If that landed for you, really let yourself hear it.
Because if that is true, then the solution is not more effort.
It is clearing space.
It is giving yourself permission to stop carrying what is not yours. It is having an honest conversation with yourself about where you really are.
Which brings me to why I wanted to record this episode.

Now before we finish, I want to leave you with something you can use immediately.
It is one question.
A question I ask myself every single morning before I check my phone, before my inbox, before anyone else’s needs enter my day.
Here it is:
If I only do one thing today that moves my life forward, what would it be?
That is it.
Most people begin the day by asking the wrong question:
What do I need to do today?
And the answer becomes an exhausting list of scattered tasks.
But the better question is:
What one thing would genuinely move my life in the direction I want it to go?
It might be making the phone call you have been avoiding.
It might be writing one paragraph of the book you keep talking about.
It might be going for a thirty-minute walk without your phone.
It might be having the difficult conversation you have postponed.
It is usually not the thing screaming loudest on the to-do list.
It is usually the thing that matters most.
And when you ask yourself this question every morning, something powerful starts to happen.
You begin rebuilding the muscle of intentional living.
You stop reacting to everyone else’s priorities and start choosing your own.
It takes sixty seconds. But over ninety days, it can genuinely change your life.
So tomorrow morning, before you reach for your phone, ask yourself the question. Write down the answer. Then go and do it.

You do not need to wait for January.
You do not need to wait for the perfect moment because the perfect moment is often just a story we tell ourselves to avoid starting now.
The year is half over.
But it is also half remaining.
And what you choose to do with the next ninety days could completely change how 2026 ends.
