#471 - Monday Motivation: "Freedom isn't having more. It's owing your time to no one but yourself."

Welcome to another short, empowering episode of Monday Motivation, giving you a dose of inspiration as you head into your week...

Today, we explore the idea that true freedom comes from owning your time and making intentional choices, rather than constantly chasing more:

"Freedom isn't about having more. It's owning your time to no one but yourself."

Three key takeaways you can expect:

  1. Why having more money, success or achievements doesn't automatically create freedom.
  2. How freedom is really about having both time and financial choice.
  3. The small daily decisions that can help you reclaim your time and create a life you love.

Listen in and discover how creating even one hour that's truly yours can help you move closer to living your dream life, whatever that means for you.

As always, I’d LOVE to hear what resonated most with you - so please share and let’s keep the conversation going in the Dream Life Podcast Facebook Group here.

Have a wonderful week …and remember, it all starts with a dream 💛

Kristina: Hi there, and welcome back to another Monday Morning Motivation episode. Happy Monday to you. Wherever you are, whatever this week is asking of you, I am so glad you have pressed play and given yourself these few minutes before everything begins.

That choice right there is a small act of freedom, in my opinion, and freedom is exactly what I wanted to sit with you this morning. There's a line I keep coming back to lately. I'll say it slowly because I want it to land.

"Freedom isn't about having more. It's owning your time to no one but yourself." I don't know about you, but for a long stretch of my life, I had it the wrong way around. I thought freedom was something that would arrive once I had more.

Maybe more money, more success, more space in the [00:01:00] calendar that I was sure would magically appear once I've done enough, achieved enough, proven enough. So I chased the more, and here is what I have noticed.

The more I got, the more wanted from me. A bigger life came with bigger demands. The to-do list did not shrink. It just changed its outfit. And somewhere in there, I realized I'd built something that looked free from the outside, but on the inside, I was answering to everyone but myself.

Not 100%, absolutely not 100%, but this is how I felt. Maybe that sounds familiar to you, the sense that your days belong to other people, to the inbox, to the meeting that could have been an email, to the person who needs something from you the moment you sit down with your tea or coffee. You are busy, you're capable, you're doing all the things, and yet, at the end of the day, you [00:02:00] couldn't honestly point to a single hour that was truly yours.

And that is the thing about freedom. It was never really about having more. It's about who your time belongs to. So this morning, I want to gently reframe what freedom actually is, because I think we have been sold a version of it that keeps us running, and I feel like it's the old way of looking at freedom, and there is a new way.

And freedom is not the absence of work. I just wanna say that because I feel that sometimes we look at freedom as being on a remote island, sipping a pina colada at 10 AM in the morning. I don't think freedom is about lying on the beach forever doing nothing. Most of us, I think, would lose our minds in about three days.

Freedom is something far more interesting than that. Freedom is choice. It's having enough in your money and in your [00:03:00] time that you get to choose. You choose what you say yes to, you choose what you say no to, and you choose how your Tuesday looks.

You choose the work that lights you up, and you choose to let go of the work that drains you. You choose who you spend your hours with. You get to live a life that you actually decide on purpose rather than one that simply happened to you while you were busy keeping up.

And notice both pieces matter here, money and time. Money on its own isn't freedom. Plenty of people have money and no time, and often they are some of the most trapped people I have met. Time on its own isn't freedom either, because if you've got all the time in the world and you're worried about how to pay for the life you want, that worry will follow you into every quiet moment.

But let's put them together. enough money that you are [00:04:00] not making decisions out of fear, enough time that the decision is actually yours to make. That combination is where freedom lives. That's the soil where choices can grow.

I want you to picture it for a moment. Just picture the version of your life where you owed your time to no one but yourself. What would you do differently this week? Would you start later and have a slow morning with your coffee and your journal, and maybe go for a walk instead of being yanking to the day before your feet even touch the floor?

Would you finally say no to the things you've been resentfully saying yes to for years? Would you give your best, sharpest hours to the work that is genuinely yours, the dream you keep tucking away for later? Would you simply breathe a little bit more, knowing that the day was shaped by you and not by everyone who got your time before you did?

Sit with that picture because I think it tells you [00:05:00] something true about what you actually want. Not more, not busier, whatever comes to mind for you, just yours Now, here's the part I find so encouraging. Freedom isn't a finish line you cross one day in the far off future.

It's not something you have to wait until retirement to feel. I feel like that's the old way of looking at freedom. Freedom is built in choices, small ones made consistently that slowly hand your time back to you. It's the choices to protect one morning a week that belongs to you and no one else. You can start really, really small. It's a choice to look honestly at where your money is going and to start building a buffer so that fear has less of a vote in your decisions.

It's the choices to stop measuring your life by how much you are carrying and start measuring it by how much you are actually choose. Every one of those is a small reclaiming, [00:06:00] and they all add up. They really do. The person who owns their own time didn't get in one dramatic leap.

They got there by choosing themselves in little ordinary ways over and over, until one day they look up and realize their life belonged to them again this is exactly the idea we'll be spending real time within our coaching community throughout July. This whole questions of freedom and what it actually takes to have the time and the money to choose how you want to, live

If that's something stirring in you right now, hold on to it. There's no rush. Just notice that it's there. Sometimes the notice is the beginning of everything. But you don't need to wait for anything to start this morning.

You can begin with one choice today. So here is what I would love for you to take into your week. Find one hour this week that you will owe to no one but yourself. Just one. [00:07:00] Block it out. Guard it gently.

And in that hour, do the thing that reminds you your life is yours, whatever that is for you. Because freedom isn't waiting on the other side of more. It's already here in the next choice you make about your time. And as always, if you need support, I'm running a workshop next week, if you're listening to the time of releasing this episode.

It's all about working out what your freedom number is, and also what to do with those hours when you do have that freedom. You just head over to yourdreamlifestartshere.com and I will link to it in the show notes as well. And then in July, we are gonna go much deeper on this.

So if it feels right time for you, join us. It's the most beautiful community, and it's all about creating your dream life, whatever that is for you. thank you so much for being here today and today, make it a beautiful Monday and choose well this week.

And as always, I'll be back on Friday. I'll see [00:08:00] you then.
