#493 - Monday Motivation: The Thing You Keep Meaning To Start

Welcome to another short but empowering episode of Monday Motivation, giving you a dose of inspiration as you head into your week.
Today, we ask one deceptively simple question: what is the thing you keep meaning to start?
Three key takeaways:
- Why the first answer that comes to mind may be the one worth noticing
- How leaving an idea untouched can keep it perfect, safe and unreal
- A very small Monday task that turns a vague weight into something you can name
You don't need to start the whole thing today.
Just say it aloud, write it in your journal or share it quietly with someone you trust.
As always, I’d LOVE to hear what resonated most with you - so please share and let’s keep the conversation going in the Dream Life Podcast Facebook Group here.
Have a wonderful week ...and remember, it all starts with a dream.
Enjoy!

TRANSCRIPT:
Hi there, and welcome back to another Monday Morning Motivation episode. I missed a couple of Monday episodes and received some lovely messages. I was disappointed not to deliver as usual, but it meant so much to hear that this Monday show has become important to some of you.
I began Monday Morning Motivation because I wanted inspiration on a Monday morning and thought I might not be the only one. Thank you to everyone who reached out. I may not have replied to every message on social media, but I appreciate every one, and your encouragement is part of why I love to keep making these episodes.
Today I want to begin with a question. I would love you to answer it before the episode ends, ideally aloud if you can. What is the thing you keep meaning to start? I think you know the one.
I once came across a line about starting where you are, using what you have and doing what you can. I remember it being associated with Arthur Ashe, but I have also heard other attributions and I am not certain of the original source. Let us focus on the idea rather than presenting the attribution as settled.
The words are simple, but many of us behave as if they say the opposite: get somewhere better first, gather more than you have and wait until you can do it properly.
I am not asking about all your goals for the year or what you would generally like more of. I am asking about the particular thing that has sat on your list for so long that you almost stopped seeing it.
Perhaps it is a course whose browser tab is still open. Perhaps it is a business, side hustle, important conversation, health change, move, piece of writing, skill or journey. It may be something small that embarrasses you slightly because it remains undone. Whatever arrived first is worth noticing, because we often talk ourselves out of the first answer and search for a more sensible second one.
You already knew the answer. You did not have to work it out. The difficulty may not be knowing what you want. It may be that starting would make it real. While it stays on the list, it remains perfect. Nobody has tested it, judged it or watched it go wrong.
The moment you start, the idea enters the real world with effort, mess and the possibility that it may not work. Keeping it safe can feel sensible, and I understand that because I do it too.
When I started kikki.K, I was 22. English was my second language. I had no retail experience, no business degree and very little money. I had every rational reason to wait.
Years later, I felt the same fear about this podcast. I wondered who I was to interview people, whether others did it more professionally and how any of the equipment worked. I thought I might begin after learning more. Instead, I made the first episode before I felt ready. It was uncomfortable and imperfect, but it was a start. The transcript describes the catalogue as almost 500 episodes, which must be checked against the live catalogue before publication.
A more recent example for me is strength training. It had been on my list for years. I had done a little here and there, but I finally began in a small way. It is not perfect and I am not where I know I can get to, but I have started.
Here is what I would love you to do this week. It is deliberately small. I do not even want you to start the whole thing yet. I want you to name it.
Say it aloud in the car or while you are walking. Write it in your journal or in the notes on your phone. Mention it to someone as casually as you might mention the weather. There is no need for a big announcement.
A thing you have named behaves differently from a thing you have avoided. It stops being a vague weight and becomes something specific you can pick up.
Notice one more thing. You may have carried this particular idea for a year or much longer, and it has not disappeared. Things you do not truly want often fade, and that is completely fine. This one stayed. That is worth your attention.
Your Monday task is one question and one answer: what is the thing you keep meaning to start? Name it this week. That is all I am asking for now. We will talk more about what comes next soon. I will be back on Friday with another episode.
