TRANSCRIPT:
Hi there, and welcome back to another Monday Morning Motivation episode. I am Kristina, and I am so glad you are here with me today.
As a visual person, I have a wall calendar, and I recently added something to it in December. It reminded me that December is closer than we think.
I am not telling you this to make you feel behind. That is absolutely the last thing I want. I am telling you because I felt something in that moment that I think many of us feel around this time of year, and that is drift. It is the feeling that the weeks are moving and you are moving with them, but you are not sure you are actually going anywhere.
I often feel this when I travel. My days are very full, and there are always important things to be done. That is why I am travelling. But many things around travel are not very productive, including simply getting there and handling everything around it.
That means my days feel full. It may be the same for you for different reasons. But if you are honest with yourself for a moment, some of the things that matter most to you may be exactly where they were in January.
I want to talk about this today because I think it is one of the most important things I have learned when it comes to planning. Drift does not feel like a decision. That is what makes it so easy to slip into.
Nobody wakes up and says, 'This year I am going to let my biggest dreams sit untouched.' Nobody chooses that. Drift is what happens when we do not choose. Busy days carry us along, week after week and month after month, until we look up and it is December. Another year has slipped by, with our dreams still in the same place.
Let me paint two pictures for you, two versions of the same December.
In the first one, it is late December and you are looking back on the year. Your true feeling is, 'Where did this year go?' You were busy the whole time, but the things that really matter to you never quite had their turn, just as they did not the year before. There is a small ache and an uncomfortable feeling, a sense that another year has drifted past.
Now picture the second December. It is the same you and the same busy life, because life does not become less full. But this time, when you look back, you can point to something real, one dream you actually moved towards. Perhaps it is a habit that finally stuck or a promise to yourself that you kept.
You may not be at the finish line, but you are clearly further down the road than you were in August, and you can feel it. You feel proud. You feel as though you were in the driver's seat, and you created momentum.
Here is what I want you to know. The difference between those two Decembers is not talent, luck or more motivation.
Although this is a Monday Morning Motivation show, motivation is simply lovely when it appears. That is one reason I share these episodes on Monday mornings, because sometimes we need it. The trouble is that motivation does not always arrive on schedule. It comes and goes. Some mornings you feel ready for anything, and on other mornings you do not.
If you wait to feel motivated before you move, you may be waiting for a long time. What carries you from here to a December you are proud of is not motivation. It is momentum, and momentum is built on purpose, a little at a time.
Let me give you three simple things to help you stop drifting and start building from today.
The first is clarity. I talk about this all the time. You cannot move towards a dream that is still a blur. This week, get clear on just one thing. Not your whole life, just one dream, the one that keeps tapping you on the shoulder.
Write it down in a single sentence somewhere you will see it. Clarity is where momentum begins.
The second is courageous action. I mean an action so small that it almost feels too easy or even laughable. We often think we need one enormous leap between now and December, but what we need is one step taken this week, followed by another one next week.
This is something I have seen over and over in the Dream Life Coaching program. Clarity does not always come before action. Action creates clarity. Of course, when you have clarity, you will take more action. But if you do not have clarity yet, begin by taking action.
You do not think your way to a clear path. You walk your way to it. Pick one small step and take it before Friday.
The third is support. This is the one we often forget. We think we should be able to do everything on our own, and then we feel bad when it is hard. But nobody builds momentum alone.
The people who keep going do so because someone is walking beside them, someone who checks in or believes in the dream on the days when they cannot quite believe in it themselves.
Ask yourself, 'Who is walking through this year with me?'
If the answer is no one, that is worth changing, and you can change it in many different ways.
Clarity, one courageous action and support. That is how you stop drifting towards December and start moving towards a December you will be glad you lived.
Before I go, I want to leave you with one question, and I would love you to write it down: If nothing changes between now and December, how will you feel looking back?
Sit with that for a moment and become really clear. You still have months, not days. That is so much more time than drift wants you to believe.
A great deal can change in the time you have left this year if you decide to build momentum instead of waiting for motivation. You have it in you. You always do. Perhaps all that has been missing is a little clarity, one small step and someone in your corner.
If you are nodding along today, if you are tired of watching a year drift by and you know you do not want to do it alone, that is exactly what our Dream Life Community is here for.
As always, there is no pressure to join, just an open door whenever you are ready to walk through it.
For now, do the small thing. Write down your one dream and take one step this week. That is where momentum begins.
Thank you so much for spending this Monday with me. I am so glad you are here, and I look forward to seeing you back on Friday.
Have the most beautiful week, and I will see you on Friday.
