#486 - Why Q4 Is the Most Important Quarter of Your Year

Hi there, and welcome back.

Today, I want to talk about a part of the year that is often overlooked, yet can make such a difference to how we feel when December arrives.

Around this time, it is easy to stop steering. January’s excitement has faded, life has become full, and the dreams and goals that once felt so clear can slip beneath the everyday things that shout the loudest. We quietly tell ourselves that we will start again in the new year.

But the final 90 days are not leftovers. They are a whole season of your life, and there is still time to finish something meaningful, build a habit, have a brave conversation or make genuine progress on a dream you care about.

Listen in, take a quiet moment with your journal, and give yourself the chance to design a finish that feels true to you.

There is still plenty of road left, and how this year ends is still yours to shape.

Kristina: Hi there, and welcome back to Your Dream Life Podcast. I am so happy you are here with me today.

I am not sure what you are doing while you listen to this, but if you can, pour yourself a cup of something warm, find a comfortable spot and let us spend a little time together. You may be out for a walk or driving. It does not matter, because today I want to talk about something that has been on my mind this week, and I have a feeling it might be exactly what you need to hear right now.

We are in early August 2026, and if you are anything like me, a curious thing happens around this time of year. On one hand, the year still feels as though it has plenty of road left. On the other, we are already about two-thirds of the way through it. The mornings here in Australia are still cool and spring is not far away. If you are on the other side of the world, the mornings may still be warm and autumn is not far away. The final stretch of the year is much closer than it appears.

I was sitting with my journal a few mornings ago, coffee in hand, and I asked myself a very simple question: If the year ended today, how would I feel about it?

I would not be happy if it ended. I am so not done with this year. I have so much more I want to do before the end of the year.

That question stirred something in me and started the reflection I want to share with you today. Maybe you have not asked yourself that question yet. I think the sooner we ask it, the better, because then we can do something about the answer.

Here is what I have noticed in my own life and in the lives of so many people I have had the privilege to coach over the years. Somewhere around this time of year, many of us stop planning.

Think back to January. Most of us began the year full of energy and hope. We might have set intentions or written down our dreams and goals for the year. If you are in my coaching program, you would have planned the year with me in January. We meant every word and, if you were anything like me, you became really excited.

Then life did what life always does. It became very full and, for some of you, busy. The dreams and goals that once felt so clear slowly slipped down the list beneath the everyday things that shout the loudest.

By the time we reach the last few months of the year, many of us are no longer steering. We are coasting. We are letting the year happen to us instead of choosing how it ends.

Often, we tell ourselves a quiet story. We may not share it with anyone else, but it sits in our subconscious. We say, “I will sort it out when I have time.” Often, that means when the new year starts. Then we think, “There is no point starting now. I will start fresh in the new year.”

I understand that story. I have told it to myself many times in the past. But I want to challenge it today because I think it costs us much more than we realise.

Here is what I have come to believe after years of working with people and working on my own dreams and goals: the last 90 days of the year are not leftovers. They are not simply a period to get through so you can begin again in January. The final quarter is one of the most important and most overlooked stretches of the entire year.

Think about what 90 days really is. I know we do not have 90 days left yet, but we will soon. I like to think ahead so that when we reach that point, we are ready.

Ninety days is enough time to change something real. It is enough time to finish something you started earlier this year. It is enough time to build a habit, have a brave conversation or make genuine progress on a dream or goal you have carried all year. Ninety days is not a small thing. It is a whole season of your life.

If you have been part of this community, joined my coaching program or listened to this podcast for a while, you may know that I have planned in quarters for many years. That is why this topic matters so much to me.

The way you finish matters more than we often give it credit for. When you finish the year strongly, you do not simply tick a few boxes. You walk, or perhaps run, into the new year with momentum, energy and the confidence that comes from knowing you can trust yourself to follow through on what you say matters.

That feeling is worth so much more than the boxes themselves.

The opposite is also true. When we drift to the finish line, we often carry a low, nagging sense of disappointment into the new year. Then we try to fix it with a big burst of resolutions on 1 January. As most of us know from experience, that is a much harder way to create change than finishing well now, while there is still real time on the clock.

I learnt this over many years. When I was building kikki.K from scratch, and later when I had to start again after a very challenging chapter and build my new business, Dream Life, one thing became very clear to me. The difference is almost never made only in the big burst at the beginning. It is made in the final stretch. It is how you finish and whether you keep showing up after the initial excitement has worn off.

As always, it is about progress, not perfection. Small steps, repeated with a little discipline, are where a strong finish is built.

If finishing strongly is so valuable, why do so many of us drift? I think there are two things worth naming.

The first is busyness. We are all carrying a lot. When life is full and we are busy, we can mistake motion for progress. We feel productive because we are constantly doing things, but we are not always doing the things that matter most to us. Busy is not the same as intentional.

The second is a lack of clarity. I see this repeatedly in the workshops I have been holding each month. It is very hard to finish strongly when you are not sure where you are or what a strong finish would look like for you.

Vague dreams and goals are difficult to act on. When something feels vague and overwhelming, the most natural thing in the world is to avoid it. That is human nature.

The answer is not to push harder. It is to get clear.

Clarity turns an overwhelming year into a simple, doable path. It almost always begins in the same way, with a pen, a page and a few questions. I want to leave you with something practical because that is what we do here. We dream big, and then we do.

Take a quiet moment sometime this week. Grab a pen and a journal, and look at your year through three simple lenses. You do not need to solve anything today. You do not need the whole plan. You simply need to see where you are.

First, look back. Ask yourself: What have I done this year that I am proud of?

Include the big and small things. It might be the project you shipped, the walk you took most mornings, the boundary you finally held or the trip you booked. We are so quick to rush past our progress without pausing to acknowledge it.

Start there. Celebrate the small things. They count more than you think, and they remind you that you are capable of taking action.

Second, ask yourself: Where am I now compared with what I said mattered to me in January?

This question takes a little courage. You need to see clearly. You cannot design a strong finish until you know where you are standing.

Think of it as reading a map. You are not disappointed in the map for showing you where you are. You are grateful because now you can plan the way forward.

Third, look forward. Ask yourself: What are two or three things that, if I did them in the next 90 days, would make this year feel complete?

Not 20 things. I say that because I see it repeatedly, and I know it from my own experience. When I am planning, I want to do so much and I become very excited. But I want you to choose a maximum of two or three things. Choose the ones that would let you close the year and honestly say, “I am so glad I did that.”

Look back, look honestly at where you are, and then look forward. That is it. Three lenses and one page.

It is simple on purpose because simple is what we actually do. When things become too complicated, we do not take action.

If you take only one question from today, let it be the one that started all of this for me: If the year ended today, how would you feel about it, and what would you most want to change in the next 90 days?

Sit with that for a moment. Write down whatever comes up. Do not edit it and do not worry about how yet. Let it come as it comes. Honesty on paper is where clarity begins.

I know the second lens, looking honestly at where you are, can be the hardest to do on your own. It is much easier to see clearly when you have a few good questions to guide you.

I have made something simple to help you. On Monday, I am sharing a free scorecard called How on Track Are You to Finish 2026? It takes about three minutes. You answer a few questions and receive a clear picture of where you are with three months to go, including where your energy and focus might be leaking away without you noticing.

There is no overwhelm in it, just clarity. As you know by now, clarity is where everything begins.

Keep an eye out for it on Monday. If you are not on our mailing list, make sure you join so you receive my emails and the link. It is completely free, and I would love you to be one of the first to use it as your starting point for a strong finish.

For now, take a big breath. Remember that you are still in the driver’s seat. There is plenty of road left in this year, and how it ends is still yours to design.

Thank you so much for spending this time with me today. Be gentle with yourself, look at where you are, and let us finish this year strongly together.

As always, I will be back on Monday with another Monday Motivation episode. I cannot wait to see you then.
