How to Use Our Walking Journal

Walking stimulates so many ideas for me and every time I go for a walk, I take notes. Sometimes on my phone, other times in a small notebook.

Then on my return, I take a little time to use my Walking Journal to record my experience, thoughts and ideas – making it a beautiful ritual - which is what I encourage you to do too.

With a glass of water, a cup of tea or your morning coffee, journal away about where you walked, how you felt, what you thought about, the insights you had, the ideas it stimulated… anything that comes to mind. And any actions that come from that.

Look back over your journal from time to time and observe the
patterns in your experiences and thoughts.

Keep the journal handy for when you come back from a walk, and create a beautiful walking ritual of your own.

Enjoy!

The Benefits of Walking & Journaling About Your Walks

It’s true that physical activity doesn't need to be complicated – and something as simple as a daily walk can help you live a healthier life. Physically and mentally.

There are so many benefits, including:

Reducing stress & tension.

Stimulating new ideas.

Improving cardiovascular fitness.

Helping maintain a healthy weight.

Strengthening your bones and muscles.

Helping prevent or manage various conditions, including high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Improving endurance & increasing energy levels.

Improving your mood, memory & sleep - and strengthening your immune system.

The more frequently, further and faster you walk, the greater the physical benefits – but leisurely walking can be wonderful mentally and physically, so just do what feels right for you.

As for journaling, it's benefits have been widely researched and written about and include:

Aids memory as you record specific aspects of everyday life.

Stimulates creativity.

Enriches experiences, as you relive and look at them from the different angles of a writer and observer.

An expressive learning & coping method - which helps people evolve & grow as they process their thoughts, feelings and experiences. Negative, positive or neutral.

Helps you explore alternatives and options in a relaxed way, with no judgement from others.

Allows you to explore thoughts, and then put them aside. To externalise and dump them. Allowing you to move forward.

Combining walking & journaling is a healthy mix well worth creating a daily habit around!
