From Weather to Wellness: How Magdalena Roze Reinvented her Dream Life in Byron Bay
by Kristina Karlsson
I’m thrilled to share thoughts from a recent podcast episode conversation I had. I sat down with the warm, grounded and endlessly inspiring Magdalena Roze, and I promise—this is a chat you’ll want to soak up with a cosy cuppa.
If you don’t already know Magdalena, she’s an award-winning meteorologist, journalist, author, and passionate storyteller of food, community, and simple joys.
Her journey is one of bold decisions, grounded ambition, and embracing change with grace. From a high-profile media career in Sydney to co-creating a slower, intentional life by the sea in Byron Bay—her story is a beautiful reminder that we all have the power to create a dream life, one grounded in our values and passions.
The Courage to Pivot: From TV Screens to a Farm in Byron
Magdalena’s career began with a clear dream—she wanted to be on television. And she made it happen.
From behind-the-scenes producer roles to presenting on National Geographic and the Weather Channel, to broadcasting with Channel Ten, she carved out a remarkable media career.
But when her partner had the opportunity to open a restaurant on a farm in Byron Bay, they made a leap—leaving city life and careers behind for something new.
At first, it wasn’t easy. Magdalena spoke candidly about the identity crisis that followed. Who was she without her media job? What was next? But out of that uncertainty came reinvention.
She followed her natural curiosity and began writing about food, lifestyle, and the inspiring people in her new community. Slowly but surely, her new dream life began to take shape.
Creating a Life That Aligns with Your Soul
One of the most powerful parts of our chat was hearing how Magdalena embraced the unknown. Rather than rush into the next thing, she allowed space for reflection.
She tuned into what truly lit her up—and realised it was storytelling, food, and shining a light on small businesses with heart.
That passion led to her cookbook, her early (and visionary!) food podcast, and now her beautiful project Season—a food and lifestyle guide celebrating Australia’s hidden gems.
Magdalena’s work today is a buffet of everything she loves. She blends media, writing, photography, and storytelling—while raising her family in the calm rhythm of Byron Bay. It’s not always linear, but it’s deeply fulfilling.
Five Key Insights From Our Conversation
1. Persistence Meets Preparation
When opportunity knocked, Magdalena was ready—because she’d been preparing quietly behind the scenes for years.
Whether it was working on her presenting skills or cold-calling for jobs every few months, she showed that dreams often require steady action long before anyone sees the result.
2. Trust the Pause
After moving to Byron, there was a period of discomfort. But instead of pushing through it or rushing back to the city, Magdalena sat with it.
In that stillness, she found clarity. It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the path to our next chapter begins with space to simply be.
3. You Can Redefine Success
For many years, success for Magdalena meant a big career in the media. Now, it’s about creative freedom, time with family, and contributing to her community.
As she shared, “Slowing down doesn’t mean doing less—it means doing what matters most.”
4. Support and Community Matter
Magdalena spoke about the importance of reaching out when you’re in a rut.
Trusted friends, mentors, or even a single encouraging conversation can be the difference between staying stuck and moving forward.
5. Bring Your Family Along for the Ride
I loved hearing how Magdalena involves her children in her creative projects and travels. Like me, she believes that this kind of exposure is an incredible education.
It’s not always picture-perfect, but it’s real and rich and memorable.
Reinvention Through Passion & Purpose
What I admire most about Magdalena is that she doesn’t chase trends—she follows what feels true.
Her passion for good food, community, and connection now shapes everything she does. And in doing so, she’s built a life of meaning and magic, far beyond the glossy world of television.
It was also such a joy to talk about the joys of early mornings (we both love them!), books, wellness routines, and how our seasons of life shift as we grow.
There’s a beautiful grace in accepting that change is part of the dream too.
Let’s Keep Dreaming...
If you’re at a crossroads, feeling unsure, or simply wondering if there’s more—you’re not alone. Magdalena’s story is proof that even when we feel lost, there’s a way forward. And often, it starts with one simple question: What lights me up?
So, take a little time to dream today. Reconnect with your heart. You never know what’s waiting on the other side of your next brave decision.
