Living Your Purpose – A Simple Path to Clarity, Joy and Meaning

by Kristina Karlsson
Why Purpose Matters
Have you ever asked yourself, What is my purpose? Not your job title. Not the roles you play for others. But the deep reason you’re here.
I’ll never forget my own moment of asking this question. Years ago, in the middle of the night, I found myself wide awake at 3am. I turned to Paul, my partner, and whispered:
What am I going to do with my life?
At the time, I had no money, no clear plan, and no idea what the future would hold. But that night, I picked up a pen and wrote down what really mattered to me.
That simple act changed everything.
It became the seed of what would grow into my global business, my book Your Dream Life Starts Here, and the work I do now to inspire others.
That moment taught me something powerful: when you connect with your purpose, life shifts. Everything becomes clearer, lighter, and more intentional. And here’s the beautiful truth - you can do this too as I explored in this recent podcast episode.
The Power of Purpose
Purpose is like an inner compass. Without it, we drift - chasing goals that don’t fulfil us, or living life based on what we think we “should” do.
But when you’re connected to purpose, everything changes:
- You make decisions with clarity.
- You wake up excited about the day ahead.
- You navigate challenges with more resilience.
- You feel a deeper sense of joy, even in ordinary moments.
Purpose isn’t about being perfect. It’s about progress, growth, and alignment with what matters most to you.
How to Begin Discovering Your Purpose
If you’re not sure where to start, here are three gentle steps that can make a world of difference:
1. Reflect on What Matters Most
Grab a journal and write down your values. Ask yourself: What do I stand for? What brings me joy? What do I want more of in my life?
Your values act like a compass, pointing you toward your purpose.
2. Notice Your Moments of Flow
Think about times when you’ve felt completely lit up - when hours flew by without you noticing. What were you doing? Who were you with? These moments hold clues to your deeper why.
3. Start Small
You don’t need to figure out your entire life purpose overnight. Begin with one small experiment. Try something that excites you. Volunteer. Write a dream list. Take a class.
Purpose isn’t found by overthinking; it’s discovered through action.
Living Your Purpose Every Day
Discovering your purpose is only the first step. The real magic happens when you live it.
Living your purpose requires courage - staying true to yourself, even when it’s hard. But the reward is priceless. You’ll feel more grounded, more alive, and more aligned with the life you want to create.
This morning, as I was journaling, I reflected on how grateful I am to live my purpose every day. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
Five Key Insights from This Episode

- Values are the foundation. When you know what you stand for, your choices become simpler.
- Energy is a clue. Pay attention to the moments when you feel most alive - they point toward your purpose.
- Action creates clarity. Purpose isn’t discovered by waiting; it’s revealed through trying, doing, and experimenting.
- Living your purpose is the goal. Discovering it is only step one. The real work - and joy - comes from living it each day.
