Why Every Day Can Be the Best Day of the Year

by Kristina Karlsson

There is a quote I absolutely love by Ralph Waldo Emerson which I explored in this recent podcast episode:

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”

Isn’t that just beautiful?

But if we're honest, it can also feel a little challenging. Because some days feel busy. Some days feel overwhelming. And some days we wake up already thinking about everything we need to do.

Yet this quote is not about pretending life is perfect. It is about intention. It is about choosing the mindset that today holds possibility.

When we begin our day with that belief, something powerful shifts.

Instead of reacting to the day, we start designing it.

In this week’s Monday Motivation episode, I share how a simple morning ritual can transform your days and slowly help you create a life you truly love.

Let me walk you through some of the key ideas.

The Power of Starting Your Day With Intention

Many of us start the day by checking our phones. Emails, messages, news, social media. Before we even realise it, our mind is busy reacting to the world.

But what if we paused first?

Just a few quiet minutes in the morning can completely change how the day unfolds.

Before the noise of the world begins, ask yourself one simple question:

How do I want to show up today?

Do you want to be calm?
Focused?
Grateful?
Present?

When you set an intention for the day, you begin to guide your actions instead of simply reacting to everything around you.

Over time, these small intentional choices shape your days. And your days shape your life.

Why Small Joys Matter More Than Big Moments

When Emerson says every day can be the best day of the year, he does not mean every day will be extraordinary.

But every day can contain beautiful moments.

A walk in the sunshine.
A meaningful conversation.
A cup of tea enjoyed slowly.
A moment of gratitude.

These moments are often small and easy to miss. But when we train ourselves to look for them, they appear everywhere.

This shift in awareness can change the entire tone of your day.

Instead of focusing on stress and busyness, you begin noticing what is good and meaningful.

And that is a powerful mindset to cultivate.

The Transformational Habit of Journaling

One of the simplest and most powerful tools I've discovered over the years is journaling.

There is something incredibly grounding about putting pen to paper.

Writing helps you slow down.
It helps you clear your mind.
And it reconnects you with what truly matters.

Some mornings I simply ask myself a few gentle questions such as:

What would make today meaningful?

What am I grateful for right now?

What is one small step I can take toward my dream today?

The answers do not need to be complicated.

Often it is the smallest step that creates the biggest momentum.

Journaling helps turn vague thoughts into clarity. And clarity helps turn dreams into action.

Creating a Simple Morning Ritual

Your morning ritual doesn't need to be long or complicated.

When I first started a morning ritual, I began with just fifteen minutes.

The key is simply creating space to pause and connect with yourself before the day begins.

Your ritual might include:

  • Writing in your journal

  • Reflecting on gratitude

  • Setting an intention for the day

  • Reading something inspiring

  • Sitting quietly with your thoughts

Even a few minutes can make a powerful difference.

Over time, you may choose to expand your ritual, but the most important thing is simply to start.

A Simple Free Resource to Help You Begin

To make it even easier to start this practice, I recently created a free resource called Morning Ritual Journaling Prompts.

It's a collection of gentle questions designed to help you start your morning with clarity, gratitude and intention.

If you'd like to try it, you can download it here and use it as part of your own morning ritual.

And if you want to take your dream life journey even further, you can explore Dream Life Coaching here.

Creating a Life You Truly Love

When you start the day with intention, something amazing happens.

You begin living each day more consciously.

You notice opportunities.
You take small steps toward your dreams.
You appreciate the beauty in ordinary moments.

And slowly, day by day, you begin creating a life you truly love.

Because your dream life is not built in one big moment.

It's built in the small choices you make each day.

So tomorrow morning, before the world becomes busy, take a moment for yourself.

Open your journal and ask:

What would make today beautiful?
